COVID-19 |
COVID-19 is a viral infection that is transmitting from one person to another. The virus
that causes COVID-19 is in a family of viruses called “Coronoviridae. This
virus has created a pandemic situation in the whole world. Almost 213 countries
and Territories around the world have been affected by this virus. This virus
started in a city of China, named Wuhan in December 2019 and took millions of
lives. It was a completely unknown virus with the symptoms of normal cold and flu
but end up severely infecting the lungs causing death.
Symptoms
The very basic and mild
symptoms of the virus were:
Cold
Flu
Headache
Fever
But then
with time, there are many other symptoms added on the list that were also
acute, such as,
Body aches
Coughing
Sneezing
No sense of
smell and taste
Shortness of
breath
To date
doctors and researchers couldn’t confirm that every patient will surely go
through the above-mentioned symptoms because there are some cases in which
patients didn’t have any of the above symptoms but they are tested positive.
Tests for COVID-19
There are 2 types of tests for this virus.
- A viral test that will let you know, if you have a current infection or not.
- An antibody test which will tell you that you had a past infection. It takes 1-3 week after infection for your body to make antibodies, that why this test might not tell about the current infection. But once your body develop the antibodies against this virus, it cannot infect you again.
Social Distancing
The very
first solution for this virus was “Social distancing”, which meant Quarantine
or self-isolate yourself. The person who feels some symptoms of this virus
consults the doctor through a helpline (provided by the Government) and if the
symptoms are mild, he has to isolate himself. He has to maintain a distance
from his social circle even from his own family because as mentioned in the
start that this viral infection is transmitting through one person to another.
In case of severe symptoms, one should seek medical assistance and the patient
should be admitted to the hospital to avoid the worst condition in which the
patient could need a ventilator.
Social
distancing is the main factor right now, which helps control this virus. People
should,
- avoid going out unnecessarily
- use mask if going out
- avoid handshakes and hugs
- use sanitizers (especially outside the house)
- wash hands regularly for at least 20sec
- sneeze in the elbow use tissue or hand for coughing
According to
WHO (World Health Organization), this virus has taken almost 491,128 lives
globally and almost 9,653,048 people are still infected by this virus. Right
now social distancing seems to be the only way which can stop the spread of
this virus. So, as a responsible citizen, everyone should play their part and
maintain a social distance.
